In the theatrical version of the film, Jim heroicly sacrifices himself to open the airlock on the outside of the ship to stop the Spaceliner from being destroyed. Jim gets more aggressive in his approaches, and it becomes really fucking scary. Sony has cleverly hidden the ethical quandary at the core of this movie from the trailers: The malfunction on the spaceliner has not woken up two passengers, but one. During the flight, Claire and Eric develop an attraction. Emma finds a note Claire was planning to send to make peace with her. The issue for most critics was not, per se, the choice to have Jim wake Aurora when his isolation becomes too much to bear; it was Passengers' failure to examine the moral implications of his action and the questions it raises about consent. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 19% approval rating based on 31 reviews, with an average score of 4.05/10. She can, however, reach his broken tether and is able to pull his body back to the ship.
