And with that premise, old school horror master Bela Lugosi starts his evil intents and the zombies are used for the "evil" purposes as well. The zombies here are actually recent dead revived and made to function as laborers for an evil sugar mill worker. Within a year of becoming the screen's first and still-best Dracula, Bela Lugosi was starring in this "epic" for The Halperin Brothers. But it's acceptable I guess...still visible enough to see and to hear, if you turn up the volume a lot. Still, with so many bad prints available of this little classic it's good to have this "restoration" from a few years back of this imaginative and atmospheric period shocker.
