I also want to retain some of Sappho’s metrical tricks. By declaring that it will be “easy to make this understood by all” at the beginning of the stanza, the speaker continues to involve her audience while suggesting that their pre-existing knowledge of the Helen myth will aid their understanding of her argument. choice without consideration of her child or her beloved parents, Sappho will make the truth of her statement known through the making of her poem. In her poem, Sappho demonstrates that, as a woman, she can not only be reproductive through her womb, but productive through her powers of creative artistry, inhabiting a multiplicity of perspectives and tenses.
